Scale Up Voter Engagement Efforts with TurboVote
Some organizations start using TurboVote for local voter engagement, and soon realize that it can help scale work across affiliate organizations as part of their multi-state and national voter engagement strategy.
This has been the case for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which first used TurboVote at its San Francisco Bay Area (SFBA) chapter, and soon thereafter encouraged other chapters across California and New Jersey (NJ) to use the tool as part of its impactful efforts to turn out Muslim voters in primary elections this year.
In February, CAIR SFBA began using TurboVote to reach Bay Area voters in preparation for the March 5 California primary. Within weeks of seeing how the tool could help them reach their existing audience and reach new ones, they developed a strategy with other CAIR chapters to use TurboVote throughout California for this primary.
CAIR CA engaged more than 1,000 voters on TurboVote in just the few short weeks before the March 5 primary. As word of their program spread, users outside of California also began using their VoteforJustice24 site with TurboVote tools to find actionable information about elections and voting, and stay informed about future elections.
Since TurboVote provides info for all 50 states plus D.C., any member of CAIR's audience can find personalized information about their upcoming elections, get help registering, and check their registration status. The team at CAIR CA, having seen the success of implementing TurboVote for their engagement efforts, reached out to colleagues at another CAIR chapter seeking to mobilize its audience for another primary on June 4 — CAIR New Jersey (CAIR NJ).
The team at CAIR NJ took notes from CAIR SFBA regarding its implementation strategy with TurboVote and used the VoteforJustice24 site for its own primary election voter engagement campaign.
CAIR NJ used QR codes directing voters to their site on posters and other materials at audience-specific gatherings, including mosque services, to make it quick and simple for voters to receive assistance and guidance from TurboVote as they registered to vote, signed up for election reminders, and reviewed information about this primary and other elections at the VoteforJustice24 site.
They shared the page with their existing digital audience, primarily on social media, and encouraged them to use TurboVote for the June 4 primary and beyond.
