From Xbox to Windows: Microsoft's Comprehensive Approach to Civic Engagement with TurboVote

Microsoft’s commitment to civic engagement in 2024 was evident in its multi-channel approach to promoting voter registration and participation through TurboVote. The company leveraged its vast digital ecosystem—including Xbox, Microsoft.com and more—to drive awareness and action, resulting in hundreds of thousands of impressions across 26 different campaigns.

As part of National Voter Registration Day efforts, Microsoft encouraged its employees to register or update their registration via its internal Civic Engagement Hub. Fred Humphries, Corporate Vice President for US Government Affairs, further reinforced this message through an all-employee email highlighting the importance of voter registration. These efforts led to hundreds of employees using TurboVote as a direct resource.

Microsoft’s reach extended beyond its workforce to thousands more users. Xbox played a significant role by integrating voter registration messaging across its platforms, from homepage promotions to social media. Additionally, Microsoft’s homepage featured a prominent voter registration promotion on September 10, while the dynamic search function within Windows further encouraged voter registration and access to election information through TurboVote.

Through these efforts, Microsoft successfully implemented a comprehensive civic engagement strategy that engaged employees, consumers, and gamers, ensuring that voter registration remained prominent and easy to navigate.
